Fritz Soot - Playlist
No. 6 is with unknown baritone as Hagen and beginns with Hagen's "Trink' erst, Held, aus meinem Horn". Does anyone recognize the voice?

Here I introduce the tenor Fritz Soot, who had a long career in Germany, but did not sing much in other countries. His recordings fall into the time of the end of acoustic and beginning of electric recording and, as these were times of an economic crisis, only had a limited circulation. He started as an actor and later became a singer and made his debut at the age of 30 in Dresden as Tonio in La figlia di Regimento. After the first World War he came to the Berlin opera in 1922, where he stayed until 1944. At the beginning he focused on Heldentenor roles, but could not sing this repertoire too long. Since the 30ies he also sometimes worked as a kind of stage director and sang minor roles, also after the war until 1952. It is reported that he made some private Lied recordings arond his 80th birthday, but nobody never heard them...
The recordings come from a Preiser LP with many unpublished recordings (from the posession of the singer) and from own shellacks (Nos. 4, 10, 15, 16). He did not make many recordings, and there is not much more to be found.
You can read about him, if you are able to read German, and look at some more photos in my other blog,
